Well I'm certainly very sorry to hear about this. Johnny is in my thoughts and I hope he recovers soon.
It's a shame but one of the reasons the health officials shut down the barn so quickly was because swine flu can be airborne. The child more than likely had a weakened immune system for whatever reason (cold, unknown bacterial infection, undiagnosied condition) which made him more at risk.
They didn't 'shut down' the barn. All the windows and doors were left open.
All medical fees needed for Johnny and others who were affected should be paid for by the responsible party. It's obvious that there was negligence regarding the evaluation of the animals prior to exposing them to the public. While I understand the urgency for a "fund me" page at this moment, it is likely that the family will be monetarily taken care of due to the negligence by those responsible. Also, the one whom has authority to charge this family for medical expenses should be able to over-ride it.
So terrible prayers for Johnny. The helicopter ride should be covered by his insurance. Life threatening illness time sensitive condition makes this eligible.
No. It's just shows how these people panic and blame the 4-H kids and the pig owners for their negligence. Sneezing is just one symptom of having the virus. They must think that just one of the pigs out of the dozens in that barn is to blame.
Things like this happen. No one purposely brought a sick pig to the fair. As soon as their was a sign of a possible problem, it was shut down. If you're at Starbucks and the person beside you sneezes, and a couple days later you get sick, do you go ask that person to pay your medical bills?
