Morgue Corpse97According to school Authorities the student suffered sickle cell disease

Authorities of OLA Girls Senior High School in Volta Region, have debunked claims that the H1N1 virus is the cause of death of one of their students.

There were uncertainties among parents and students of the school after one of the students died recently. Their fears came following the reports of diseases that have hit some schools in the country, taking lives of students.

As a result, members of the public on hearing the death of a student in the school had panic reactions and attributed the death to the H1N1 virus.

However, the Headmistress of the School in a quick response discounted the claims, explaining that the student suffered sickle cell disease.

In a press statement copied to Citi News, Mrs. Benedicta Afesi, said the form two girl died after she was diagnosed that she was sickle cell patient, and was admitted at the hospital.

“A form two student of OLA Senior High School passed on recently. She was a sickle cell patient. She fell sick and was admitted to the Volta Regional Hospital for few days after which the parents came and transferred her to Accra for further treatment. Unfortunately, she died at the hospital in Accra after almost one week on admission. We want the public to know that there is no epidemic disease in the school” she stated.

She, therefore, allayed the fears of parents and cautioned the general public to desist from peddling falsehood, as the country works to quell the cases happening in other schools.
